ADIPS launch new brand to boost awareness.

ADIPS have launched a new slogan and logo (see above) designed to underscore the fairground and amusement parks industry’s support for high standards of inspection and safety.

The new slogan ‘Promoting the safety of fairgrounds and amusement parks’ succinctly highlights the work performed in partnership between the major industry trade associations and the HSE.

The previous logo had been used for many years and there was a need for a revamp.  The brand aims to portray a professional and marketable image and to create a hallmark for fairground and amusement park safety.

The brand launch, which includes a new website, was supported by a marketing grant from Sunderland City Council.

ISO progresses with the International Standard for ‘Safety of Amusement Rides and Amusement Devices’

A meeting of the ISO/TC 254 committee which is working on the new ISO standard for the International amusement ride industry was held in London over two days prior to EAS.

The first meeting of the committee had taken place in January in Moscow. Approximately 40 delegates from various countries were in attendance at the London meeting, twice as many as in Moscow, and three working groups were established and their conveners appointed to cover three different areas of the standard. These were ‘biomechanical effects’, ‘design, manufacture and construction’ and ‘operation and use’.

The scope of ISO/TC 254 was agreed as follows:

‘Standardisation in the field of safety of amusement rides and amusement devices’ with playgrounds, facilities and equipment covered by International Standards within the scope of ISO/TC 83 excluded from the standard.

The next meeting of the committee is to be held in Berlin during next year’s EAS event, by which time the basic standards should have been drawn up.

31 Inspectors attend ADIPS Hydraulics/Pneumatics Course

The 4-day training course held at the National Fluid Power Centre in Worksop has welcomed a number of Inspectors in the last 18 months.

The purpose of the training course is to provide delegates with a knowledge base and practical experience of hydraulics/pneumatics systems.

The course becomes a mandatory requirement for inspectors registering for the hydraulics/pneumatics disciplines of in-service annual inspection from January 2012.

6 programmed courses have been arranged during 2010 and 2011 with a capacity to cater for all registered inspectors.   Any subsequent courses will be demand based and held to cater for new registered inspectors.

Current inspectors who have not completed the training but intend to register for these disciplines should contact ADIPS to discuss arrangements, or alternatively, the NFPC directly and enrol on their Stage 1 hydraulics and Pneumatics courses.  A discount for ADIPS inspectors will be applied.
