BS EN: 13814 Revision

BS EN 13814:2004.
Fairground & Amusement Park Machinery & Structures - Safety

Under the rules of CEN a proposal to revise the European Standard: BS EN13.814 Fairground   & Amusement Park Machinery   & Structures - Safety will be submitted.

BSEN13814 was published in 2004 after 16 years of work by industry specialists from all member states of Europe .

This standard is almost due for a formal revision and this period of time presents an opportunity for industry specialists within Europe to work informally in producing a document to detail and agree amendments for the forthcoming revision.

Two meetings have already taken place that invited industry specialists to represent their organisations and member states in deciding whether a formal revision should take place (all voted unanimously to go ahead with the revision).

The meetings have also discussed further harmonisation with international standards.

Resulting from the meetings there is a mandate to the industry specialists in all member states to review the whole standard in order to determine what points need to be addressed for the formal revision.

To support this process, a series of workgroups have been formed to deal with some of the main areas of the standard, these are:

  • Structure and Mechanism
  • Platform, Stairs and Ramps
  • Guest Behaviour and Risk Assessment
Draft: Appendix Guest Behaviour (Click to view)
  • Use and Maintenance
  • Acceleration and Passenger Restraints
  • Control Systems and Electrical

The UK has ensured representation on these workgroups and a number of interested industry specialists from the UK have also expressed interest to support the process. This network of UK specialists aims to develop the UK agenda for the revision and present this at the final informal revision on 17 th June 2010 . If you would like to be involved in the informal revision or would like further information please contact the ADIPS office.
